Position Summary
The Shipping Clerk prepares customer orders for shipment and ensures the correct parts, quantities, paperwork, and labels are included. This position works with Production, Quality, and shipping carriers to help orders leave safely, accurately, and on time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Review shipping paperwork and make sure orders are complete and ready to ship.
• Match part numbers, quantities, purchase orders, and customer information to the order.
• Count and check parts before packing them.
• Pack parts safely to help prevent damage during shipping.
• Choose the correct boxes, pallets, wrapping, banding, or other packing materials for each order.
• Create and attach shipping labels, packing slips, bills of lading, and other required paperwork.
• Enter shipment information into the computer or shipping system accurately.
• Schedule pickups or work with shipping carriers when needed.
• Stage completed orders in the correct shipping area.
• Load trucks and help unload deliveries when needed.
• Make sure customer and carrier requirements are followed.
• Watch for damaged parts, incorrect quantities, missing paperwork, or other problems that could delay a shipment.
• Stop and ask for help when an order does not match the paperwork or shipping instructions are unclear.
• Keep shipping paperwork and records accurate and organized.
• Communicate with Production, Quality, and supervisors about missing parts, late orders, or other shipping concerns.
• Keep the shipping area, dock, and packing stations clean and organized.
• Keep track of shipping supplies and let a supervisor know when supplies need to be reordered.
• Use forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes, hoists, and other material-handling equipment when trained and authorized.
• Follow all company safety rules and wear the required personal protective equipment.
• Help in other production areas when needed.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Previous shipping, warehouse, or manufacturing experience is preferred.
• Ability to read and follow work orders, packing slips, and shipping instructions.
• Basic math skills and the ability to count parts accurately.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to learn shipping and inventory systems.
• Ability to prepare accurate labels, paperwork, and shipping records.
• Ability to organize work and keep track of several orders at the same time.
• Ability to work independently and communicate with supervisors, Quality, and other employees.
• Ability to safely operate Forklifts and Pallet Jacks
• Dependable, safety-minded, and able to pay close attention to details.
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Previous shipping, warehouse, or manufacturing experience is preferred.
• Related training or work experience may also be considered.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand and walk for most of the shift.
• Ability to regularly bend, reach, push, pull, and handle parts, boxes, pallets, and packing materials.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
• Ability to push and pull up to 100 pounds
• Ability to safely handle metal parts that may have sharp edges.
• Ability to read labels and paperwork, count parts, and check orders for accuracy.
• This position works in a manufacturing and shipping environment around moving equipment, trucks, loading docks, noise, metal parts, dust, and changing temperatures. Wear required personal protective equipmentin designated areas.
