Position Summary

The Brake Press Operator sets up and operates brake press equipment to bend and form metal parts. This position follows blueprints, work orders, and job instructions to make sure parts are produced correctly, safely, and on time.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Set up and operate brake press equipment.

• Read and follow blueprints, work orders, travelers, and job instructions.

• Select and install the correct tooling and dies for each job.

• Enter or adjust machine settings based on the job requirements.

• Load, position, and remove material safely.

• Check the first completed part before continuing the production run.

• Measure parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, protractors, and other measuring tools.

• Make adjustments as needed to keep parts within the required measurements and tolerances.

• Continue checking parts throughout the job to make sure they meet quality requirements.

• Watch for damaged tooling, machine problems, incorrect measurements, or other concerns that could affect the job.

• Stop and ask for help when job instructions are unclear or a part does not meet requirements.

• Complete production paperwork and report labor, completed parts, and scrap correctly.

• Meet the company's production and quality expectations.

• Keep the machine and surrounding work area clean and organized.

• Complete basic machine checks and routine maintenance as required.

• Use cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment when trained and authorized.

• Follow all company safety rules and wear the required personal protective equipment.

• Help in other production areas when needed.

• Complete other duties as assigned.


Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Previous brake press, metal fabrication, or machine operating experience is preferred.

• Ability to read and understand blueprints and work instructions.

• Ability to use measuring tools correctly.

• Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, angles, and measurements.

• Basic mechanical skills and the ability to learn machine controls and tooling.

• Ability to perform machine setups or learn setups through training.

• Ability to work independently and communicate with supervisors, Quality, and other employees.

• Dependable, safety-minded, and able to pay close attention to details.


Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

• Previous assembly or manufacturing experience is preferred.

• Related training or work experience may also be considered.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for most of the shift.

• Ability to regularly bend, reach, push, pull, and handle metal parts and tooling.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.

• Ability to safely handle metal parts that may have sharp edges.

• Ability to see measurements, inspect parts, and safely operate equipment.

• This position works in a manufacturing environment around machinery, noise, metal shavings, oils, dust, and changing temperatures. Required personal protective equipment must be worn in designated areas.
